Good Enough Is Not Good Enough

By Curtis Ainslie | May 2, 2026

I was caught off-guard recently during a meeting with my graphic design director, Robin Ainslie. We were reviewing a concept, and without much thought, I said, "It's good enough."

He simply said, "Then it's back to the drawing board until it's no longer just good enough."

That moment stuck with me—because "good enough" shows up everywhere.

It shows up in how we run our businesses.
It shows up in how we care for our mental health.
And it shows up in how we choose to live our lives.

The Hidden Cost of "Good Enough"

Clients settle into routines that function—but don't fulfill.
Entrepreneurs build systems that work—but don't scale.
Individuals maintain habits that cope—but don't heal.

"Good enough" becomes a quiet ceiling.

Perfection vs. Excellence

Perfection is often fear in disguise—it delays action and avoids risk.

Excellence is different. It's intentional. It's aligned. It's a decision to fully engage your capacity.

Raising the Standard

If what you're producing—your mindset, habits, or business—is less than what you're capable of, then "good enough" isn't neutral.

It's a compromise.

Growth doesn't happen inside "good enough."

The Reality of Daily Effort

There will be days when your energy is low and your focus slips. That's human.

But there's a difference between an off day and lowering your standard.

One is temporary. The other becomes your baseline.

Forward Is the Standard

High standards create momentum and direction.

Allow room for mistakes—but don't normalize "good enough."

When you consistently go beyond it, you redefine what you're capable of.
